A dream became true

I, Victoria was so happy when I heard that Andreas and Barbara invited us to their home. It was a great idea to stop in Austria coming from Cracow for a few days! It was a big joy for me because I know them since they were in Egypt and in Berba. But now I really know them very well! I know now how they live in their daily life in real, not just to meet them, but to live with them. I felt like I am with my family. It was a special invitation by them. I have never ever dreamed about that kind of visit to their place called Linz. Andreas and Barbara welcomed us with great joy and full of energy. Andreas took us for a walk and a little tour around Linz. It is a wonderful place and a quite area. We also went for one morning to test how it is to practice music and we found out that we can sing but just we need to practice a lot. We learned …

Linz

When we, Victoria and Alejandra, came back from Poland, we spent some days with Andreas and Barbara. They are a couple and are friends of Sion. They have been in Egypt, specialy in Berba. That’s why they invited us to stay in Linz from the 19. to 22. of November 2015. What can I say about Austria special from Linz? It is a beautiful city and is the third largest city of Austria approximately 60 kilometres from Czech Republic and also has a beautiful river called Danube. Our first day in Austria we took the train from the Vienna airport to Linz. Our trip was two hours. Andreas was waiting for us at the train station. From there we went to his home which is located in the neighbourhood Dornach. After that we had a very nice walk to a hill where Andreas showed us how the train worked with horses to export salt from one city to another. The second day we had a music workshop with Father Werner Hebeisen. He is a Jesuit …

The Prayer of St. Francis in song  was part of our celebration: Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love; Where there is injury, pardon; Where there is doubt, faith; Where there is despair, hope; Where there is darkness, light; Where there is sadness, joy. Everyone smiles in the same language

The NDS Community in Cracow The community of Cracow was founded in 2004. November 10th was the official date of the beginning of the community of “Our Lady of Sion” – „Notre Dame de Sion” in Cracow, given in the letter of welcome by Cracow’s Cardinal Franciszek Macharski. Sr. Ania (from Poland) and Sr. Anne Denise (from France)  started together the new community in Cracow. They started to work with Christian people to show them the Jewish roots of Christianity in different ways. They prepared spiritual retreats in the Center of Dialogue and Prayer in Oswiecim as well as in different parishes in Poland. Also in the community house there are regular meetings. Sr. Ania taught religion for 7 years in different high schools of Cracow. One of these schools was for a protestant community. It was an occasion to start with young people. This community is also a place of formation for our Congregation. For some years it was a Novitiate house for the European Region. Now the community is very happy to welcome …

Cracow and the Jewish Community in Poland

My name is Alejandra and I am from Guatemala. I am having an apostolic experience in Krakow. I read some books and visited some of the synagogues and the Jewish quarter in Krakow and I am a volunteer in the Jewish Galicia Museum. First of all I would like to explain about the history of the first Jews in Krakow. The first Jews who arrived in Polish territory were merchants. They were fluent in Arabic, Persian, Greek, Spanish and “Slav” languages and their arrival occurred simultaneously with the formation of the Polish state. One of them was Ibrahim Ibn Jacob, the author of the first extensive account about Poland. Interestingly, the very first mention of the name of Krakow (Karako) comes from him. The influence of the Jews in Poland was brought about mostly by their persecution in Western Europe, which increased during the crusades. The first Jews arrived in Poland in 1097 or 1098 from Prague and Germany. In the middle of the 14th century they had occupied 35 Silesian towns. Regarding the social …
