Nonviolence: a Style of Politics for Peace

The Pope’s message for Peace you can download here as pdf in several languages: Nonviolence: a Style of Politics for Peace 1. At the beginning of this New Year, I offer heartfelt wishes of peace to the world’s peoples and nations, to heads of state and government, and to religious, civic and community leaders. I wish peace to every man, woman and child, and I pray that the image and likeness of God in each person will enable us to acknowledge one another as sacred gifts endowed with immense dignity. Especially in situations of conflict, let us respect this, our “deepest dignity”,[1] and make active nonviolence our way of life. This is the fiftieth Message for the World Day of Peace. In the first, Blessed Pope Paul VI addressed all peoples, not simply Catholics, with utter clarity. “Peace is the only true direction of human progress – and not the tensions caused by ambitious nationalisms, nor conquests by violence, nor repressions which serve as mainstay for a false civil order”. He warned of “the danger of …

Erster Advent 2016

Erster Adventsonntag!

“I thank my God every time I remember you, constantly praying with joy.” Phil. 1, 3 Nov 29th, we celebrated Andrea´s birthday with a lot of joy and delicious Costa Rican food. In the morning we thanked God for her and her family´s lives and then we had a typical Costa Rican breakfast with ‘gallo pinto’ and ‘plátano’. We had some surprises to her and just before lunch we had a short prayer with her favorite psalm. “O Lord, our Sovereign, how majestic is your name in all the earth!” Psalm 8, 1 We rejoice with thanksgiving for Andrea´s life and in a special way for her life in Sion. We thank God for your parents who brought you this life, we thank God for your family and everything that brought you here among us on this special day. “My beloved is mine and I am his.”

Sterben Zahlen an Krankheiten?

Introduction to Islam 2016

We had an introduction to Islam for two days with Msgr. Michael L. Fitzgerald, an African missionary (“White Father”). The first day, he explained the beginning of Islam in the sixth century in Arabia and the History of the Prophet Muhammad, including his background, his family and what he did in his life. Also, he mentioned the five pillars in Islam which are shahada (profession of faith), salat (prayer five times a day in the direction of Mecca), Zakat (helping the poor or offerings), Sawon (Ramadan is a month of fasting from sunrise to sunset and the reciting of special prayers from the Qur’an) and the Hajj (pilgrimage to Mecca). The second day he spoke about the ritual of the Muslim’s prayer and how the Qur’an was written and why the Qur’an is important to the Muslim people. As well, he mentioned that some of the Suras (chapters) of the Qur’an go back to the Prophet Muhammad being in Mecca and some when he was in Medina. The Medina Qur’an is all about the law, …

NDS Mediterranean Assembly 2016

On Wednesday 16th and Thursday 17th of November for the first time in the Congregation, Sisters from Gemenos, Egypt, Australia, Canada, Ecce Homo, Ein Karem, and also the Contemplative Sisters joined us to get connected by WebEx for the Regional Assembly. This was a very new experience for everybody, however, all of us were opened and patient during the whole process learning how to use this tool designed for online meeting, conferencing and videoconferencing applications. During the two days we prayed, reflected, discerned, discussed and shared our opinions and thoughts about the 26th General Chapter document. Some of the questions that we answered in groups were: “What our general impression of the document were, what challenges we found, what the calls from the Chapter were more specifically for the Region, my Community and individually?” After that, we got together using WebEx to share what each group had talked. Even though at the beginning we were not used to put into practice this technology, little by little we felt more comfortable using it. This was an …
